WOO Network and NEAR Foundation have completed a $5 million token swap to create a partnership between the two projects, both organizations said in an announcement on Friday.

As part of the partnership, WOO Network will become a builder in the NEAR Protocol ecosystem.

The tokens have a five-year vesting period, and the platforms can collaborate to create shared value for their respective token economies, according to the announcement.

WOO Network’s decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) will stake the NEAR tokens to generate yield, use it in governance and retain commitment as a NEAR ecosystem stakeholder, Ran Yi, head of ecosystem at WOO Network, said in a statement. The WOO DAO will manage 300 million WOO tokens which will be used to accelerate its growth for the liquidity network.

NEAR is a development platform built on a proof-of-stake, layer-1 blockchain. In October, NEAR launched an $800 million grants fund with a focus on decentralized finance (DeFi).

WOO Network is a liquidity ecosystem that connects traders, exchanges, institutions and DeFi platforms with access to liquidity, trading execution and yield-generating strategies. In November, it closed a $30 million round that was oversubscribed by 200%, Blockworks previously reported.

The two projects have been “familiar for years” and have a lot of synergies, Ben Yorke, vice president of marketing for WOO Network, told Blockworks.

“NEAR’s blockchain is well-known for its technical strengths and developer-friendly design. WOO Network can provide liquidity and trading infrastructure, two of the most in-demand components for blockchain smart contract layers,” said York. “Therefore, this type of relationship can strengthen the relationship between the two projects, as a way of aligning incentives and solidifying the commitment to co-development.”

WOO Network provides liquidity used in ParaSwap’s private pools, which supports dYdX’s market maker Kronos Research. “The strategic relationship with NEAR will put us in a strong position to build the next generation of products powered by decentralized technology,” Yi said.

“Integrations like these will continue to grow as multi-chain applications are able to seamlessly bridge users and assets from one network to another,” said Yorke. “Users are becoming less restricted and as a result, will flow where technology layers and application layers can combine to provide the most value with the best experience.”

Overall, DeFi protocols have gained traction during 2021 with the total value locked hitting new all-time highs in November, data from DeFiLlama shows.

The DeFi market capitalization is around $150 billion, but could become a $15 trillion industry over the next five to 15 years if it attains the same success rate of about 50% to 70% as other disruptive technologies, according to a recent report released by Bitwise.

Traders love volatility. Wild price swings provide opportunities for profit. Other than using advanced options trading strategies, there’s no way to make money in sideways markets.

Investors, on the other hand, might feel differently. Volatility can be a leading cause of panic selling. Some investors dislike volatility so much that they refuse to even enter the markets.

But there are ways to take advantage of price variance without trying to time the market, which is a losing proposition for most who do try.

Dollar-cost averaging

Sometimes the best way to take advantage of volatility is not to deal with it at all.

For those who average-in to the investments of their choice, volatility becomes a non-issue. If prices go down, great. Your next buy order will purchase more shares or coins. If prices go up, that’s fine, too! Your dollar cost will be the same, you just won’t get any more shares or coins.

Vauld’s automated investment programs (AIPs) make it easy for investors to average-in to the asset of their choice. The buy-the-dip feature makes it possible to average-in at the most favorable price levels, ensuring that the average buy price will be a lower one.

Diversification

Diversifying also provides protection from the potential ravages of volatility. The goal of a well-diversified portfolio is to have a variety of assets that aim to balance each other out. If certain sectors are underperforming, others should be outperforming — or at least remaining stable.

Not only has Vauld made it easier for people to choose how to invest in crypto — they’ve also made it easier to decide what crypto assets to invest in. In fact, Vauld users don’t have to make a specific choice if they don’t want to. They can select one of several structured products that provide exposure to specific crypto categories instead. CEO and co-founder of Vauld, Darshan Bathija explains:

“Say you’re bullish on a certain industry in the crypto space. Folks have to do research on which project will be the winner in a space and allocate capital accordingly. We’ve removed that aspect by creating baskets of tokens based on what the token does. We have a DeFi category, an AMM exposure category, centralized exchange pool, governance tokens of NFTs, governance tokens of DeFi, and so on. Depending on what aspect of crypto you’re bullish on, you can just average into the space [of your choice].”

Forget about waiting for bitcoin or crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to be listed on stock exchanges. Similar investment vehicles have already been created. And these products have been established by people who know crypto.

Maintaining liquidity

While dollar-cost averaging is great, it never hurts to have some extra cash on the side (or dry powder, as traders like to call it), ready to scoop up assets on the cheap in the event of a crash. Of course, this requires liquidity. If all your money is tied up in investments, you can’t make moves in the market without selling something first.

Oftentimes, investors lock up money with the intention of making more money, i.e., earning a yield. Vauld users have the luxury of earning a yield on crypto deposits while still staying liquid. As opposed to some platforms that require lockups for interest earners, on Vauld such lockups are optional.

Taking advantage of asymmetric upside

It’s often said that there’s an “asymmetric upside” to bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. Even a small allocation could lead to outsized gains with minimal risk if past and current trends were to continue. More and more investors, both individual and institutional, have begun to realize this.

The tools provided by Vauld make it easier for investors to gain exposure to the large potential upside in crypto while minimizing the risks stemming from massive volatility. Dollar-cost averaging, diversifying, and staying liquid can all help to maximize returns and reduce risks in the crazy crypto markets.

“We’re likely going to remain in an inflationary environment for at least another quarter or two due to rent increases, and we’ll need to assess as more data comes in as to what extent it will remain in place beyond that point or take a break. Inflation has thus far rolled from category to category, with specific price spikes and shortages in certain areas at different times, rather than altogether. There’s still a clear ongoing labor shortage.” wrote investment strategist Lyn Alden.

The Employment Cost Index (ECI), a quarterly economic series published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that details the growth of total employee compensation, is often a leading indicator for CPI. When looking at the two metrics on the same chart, it appears that inflation may remain hot for the next quarter or two.

Bonds sell-off

Bonds sold off and consequently led to a rally in yields due to the hot inflation numbers. Some industry experts believe the Fed’s recently announced taper set to begin in December is contributing to the rally in rates. Jerome Powell stated that these monthly asset purchases initially will be reduced by $10 billion for Treasury securities and $5 billion for agency securities. That still leaves a total of $105 billion of asset purchases per month on behalf of the Fed.

When inflation is running higher than the prevailing rates on bonds, the holders of said bonds are losing purchasing power because their return is not outpacing the rising cost of goods and services.

“This is the widest gap on record between the Fed’s short-term interest rate setting, and year-over-year CPI, including the 1970s.
Bitcoin

“The higher-than-expected US October CPI print is bullish for bitcoin,” Noelle Acheson, head of market insights at Genesis, told Blockworks. “Rising inflation with persistently low rates is a good tailwind for non-yielding inflation hedges. The macro situation is especially interesting for BTC in that a market in which you have bonds and equities rallying is one in which traditional investment theories no longer work.”

BTC rallied to a new ATH of $69,000 right after the CPI print, which liquidated a large number of shorts. The opposite occurred later in the day as equities closed weak, forcing a cascade of liquidations amongst longs. It appears as though the leveraged traders never learn their lesson.
