Introduction

Metaplex is the leading tokenization layer of Solana. By connecting issuers and traders, Metaplex enables the formation of global onchain markets, creating a seamless path from issuance to trading.

Starting by providing the metadata standards and program suite (Token Metadata, Core, Bubblegum for compressed NFTs, and MPL-Hybrid) that most NFTs and fungible tokens on the chain are built on. Metaplex has powered virtually all asset creation on Solana across asset types, from memecoins and project tokens to tokenized collectibles and real-world assets.

Genesis, launched in 2025, and their frontend app in 2026, extends this into token launches and onchain fundraising, adding another product line alongside the original issuance tooling.

Dashboard Overview

  • Token: MPLX supply composition, vesting, holder concentration, and buyback activity.
  • Financials: Revenue, treasury balances, cash flow, and the buyback program's balance sheet.
  • Asset Issuance: Volume and mix of NFTs and fungible tokens created through Metaplex programs.
  • Onchain Activity: Secondary NFT trading, royalties, creator activity, and network fee flows.
  • Genesis: Token launch activity, raises, and DEX trading for projects issued via Genesis.

Token

Metaplex's governance token, MPLX, has a max supply of 1B tokens. It has been fully vested since late 2024; every allocation category (Creators & Early Supporters, Foundation, Metaplex DAO, and the rest) reached 100% vested at that point.

With issuance complete, the split between circulating and non-circulating supply is now driven entirely by how much MPLX sits in the DAO Treasury, Buyback Address, and foundation treasury rather than by new token unlocks. Circulating supply currently stands at approximately 477M MPLX, or roughly 48% of total issued supply.

MPLX Buyback Address Holdings. This chart isolates just the Buyback Address, the DAO wallet that accumulates MPLX purchased with protocol revenue. Holdings have grown from approximately 77.2M MPLX in August 2025 to 134.5M MPLX today, directly reflecting the buyback program's cumulative activity and one of the mechanisms pulling circulating supply down over the same period.

Financials

Revenue is derived from SOL-denominated fees across Metaplex's programs, converted to USD at the daily SOL price. Metaplex has accrued over $49m in revenue, with over 96% of this cumulative revenue coming from Metaplex's Token Metadata program.

The Token Metadata program attaches additional standardized data such as name, creators, royalty info, and a URI pointing to an off-chain JSON file to Solana Mint Accounts via a Program Derived Address. It works with both Fungible and Non-Fungible tokens. Core has replaced Token Metadata for NFTs with a single-account design (vs. Token Metadata's 3+ accounts) that reduces minting costs by 80%+, while providing enforced royalties, collection-level operations, and a flexible plugin system for custom behaviors. Around 44% of Metaplex's revenue came from Core in July 2026.

Over 570m in MPLX tokens are held by protocol-adjacent wallets, including Foundation-owned wallets and DAO-owned wallets. Recently, Metaplex Foundation purchased OTC 42M MPLX tokens, representing 4% of total supply, increasing its treasury balance to over 200M MPLX.

Asset Issuance

Despite being most well known for NFTs, Metaplex has quietly been powering fungible tokens on Solana as well. The chart below illustrates the aggregate fully diluted value (FDV) of fungible tokens issued via Metaplex programs, underscoring the protocol's significant role in the broader Solana token ecosystem beyond its NFT roots. At today's market value, over $20b in fungible tokens have been issued from Metaplex.

Onchain Activity

The following chart shows unique signers on a monthly basis. Unique signers have seen three consecutive months of month-over-month (MoM) growth following the April lows, alongside 2x year-over-year (YoY) growth.

Metaplex: Execution Function Signers & Transactions

The following chart shows cumulative transactions from Metaplex activities. Over 840m transactions on Solana have been executed due to core Metaplex programs.

Genesis

Genesis is Metaplex's token launch product, supporting launch pools, fixed-price presales, uniform-price auctions, and bonding curve. Since its 2025 launch, Genesis has facilitated $15.0M in total raises across 578 tokens launched, drawing roughly 13K unique participants and generating $1.19M in cumulative program revenue. Genesis offers a curated spotlight program and a permissionless one. Most recently, Heeboo launched on Genesis raising over $1.2m in its sale.

Among Genesis's curated project launches, cumulative secondary DEX volume is heavily concentrated: Collector Crypt (CARDS) alone accounts for approximately $1.32B, or roughly 86% of all curated DEX volume to date, well ahead of DeFiTuna (TUNA) and Portals (PORTALS) in second and third place.
